Our trip to California was AMAZING! Shawn did an excellent job speaking at the retreat at Double Arrow camp in the Sierra-Nevada mountains. It was a relaxing time with a great group of people.

Then we made our way to the coast to fulfill a lifelong dream of seeing the great Redwoods. It was cra-zy!

They say that the Redwood forest is the quietest park in the country, I would have to concur. Walking amongst these giants can leave you word stricken. I think the wonder of it is found in several factors. The first being, there's more that one monstrous tree. It's not just one giant tree, it's thousands! Next, they're living! We've walked amongst the ruins of people who lived thousands of years ago which is cool. But walking amongst these trees, we're standing next to the oldest living organisms on earth.....just incredible.

WE loved our trip!! It was such a great experience and just nice to be away!

Hooding Ceremony!

This past Tuesday was the hooding ceremony for Miriam. This is the unofficial end of her seminary career! During this ceremony she received her master's hood so she can have her complete garb for the ceremony on May 9th. Several of our family members were able to attend this event and we are so thankful for all the support and love they have shown us during this process!

Turkey Time

So we are having Thanksgiving at our place this year. It is going to be delicious as Miriam will be serving her amazing turkey. I will be helping with the sides. Her parents and grandparents will be here on wednesday. My folks are showing up Thursday for ham and some tasty goodness. The tree is up and we are ready for the holiday season in Anderson!!!!

Mmmmmm, the Mountains!!!!!

We went to the Smokwy mountains a couple weekends ago and it was fantastic! It was so nice to get away from Anderson and be surrounded by creation in one of its finest forms, the mountains! Our original reason for going was to go to a "festival" in NC, but when we got here it was a bust, so we made out way back up to the smokies and camped in the park. We were able to see two baby black bears! We were driving on a primitive road, and they both just popped up from the side of the road. We also saw wild turkeys, deer, coyotes and all kinds of odd TN folk. Just a warning, if you loved Gatlinburg as a child and think it's still an excellent place to visit...I'd reconsider, the place is ridiculous anymore. It is now the absolute prime place for neon signs and airbrushed T's. Either way, it was fantastic and we were thankful for the time away from this crazy town!

Just an update...

For those of you who don't know, mom (Miriam's mom) had surgery this past week to remove and prevent the future spreading of some cancer cells. As of now the reports look optimistic. So no more treatment for the cancer, all we have to do is get her mended, then she'll be up and back in the game. We are so thankful for God's continual presence in this time of uncertainty, the ways that God has made us aware of the spirit's involvement throughout the duration of this process have been remarkable. What would life be like without the God that we love and serve?

The land of unending heat...

We just got back from AZ yesterday. While we went out there so Shawn could be in Jeff Whye's wedding....somehow all the pictures ended up focusing on our two neices! They were so much fun! Bella is old enough to talk, run and get into all kinds of mischeif. Gabby is old enough to chug a bottle and sleep...and that is all.

Little Gabby! She is quite bright-eyed for a 1mo. old. A very sweet little lady.
Don't get too excited at the family photo, this is not something that will be realistic in the near future, we are happy to have these little ones around giving us reason to buy cute little girl outfits and toys.
We had a lovely time in AZ. Jeff an Nicki's wedding was so much fun, it fit them perfectly. We are so happy for them and excited to see what lies in store for the newly-wed couple!

Alaska!!!

Our first stop was in Juneau Alaska! We went whale watching and had lunch at a lodge that overlooked this view! The landscape in Alaska can not be described! Neither can the deliciousness of fresh caught grilled salmon.

On our excursion we saw several Humpback whales as well as a brown bear, bald eagles and Sea Lions that were hanging out on a booey (sp?) in the middle of the water. It was delightful!

Next stop was Skagway. A small tourist town that still looks much like it did when it was first established....except instead having a red-light district, they just have a tourist district where $3.00 will buy you a magnet as opposed to a nice lady! The town is surrounded by mountains and make for a lovely scene to enjoy while sipping a nice cup of coffee. It's peaceful there....If you'll remember, in our earlier post I talked about regretting not buying those few key items of a new windproof coat and some head gear at the R.E.I. outlet...this is why. It was freezing the day we went through the Tracy Arm Fjord. The scenery was breathtaking however the cold took your breath away.
And our award for best of show goes to the South Sawyer Glacier of the Tracy Arm Fjord. The Northern Sawyer glacier was a close second, but nothing beat this view of rock, ice and water that has been here for millions and millions of year....It would take quite a bit of effort to continue not believing in God after seeing a sight like this.

It was a lovely trip, we have more pictures if you're interested, just ask and we can email them to you. We highly recommend Alasaka, we do not recommend the cruise mainly due to possible death by gluttony, which we all know is unforgiveable! Peace to all until we blog again!

We are back from the honeymoon and are attempting to keep you all updated with life after the "Big Day!"

We got to Seattle the Thursday after the wedding. What a lovely place! We walked around the down town area for almost three days before leaving for the cruise. Of course we visited Pike Place Market. Oh if only IN had something like this life would be complete! We tried all sorts of delicious pastries and fruit...it was hard to say goodbye, but Alaska was feverishly antcipating our arrival!
We mosied by the Space Needle, built in 1961ish ( we could be wrong on this, again, we simply passed through!) We were a bit disappointed by this well known landmark...I think marketing people really fix this structure up in their advertising to make it look more interesting. What we did find intersting was the R.E.I. outlet that was a mile walk from the needle. At which we almost bought several nice pieces of apparel but then sowly talked ourselves our of the purchases only to regret said decision later in the trip...once you see the pictures you'll understand why!
This is the view from our hotel room...Seattle is a beautiful emerald kissed city that has asked us to return at a later date, a request which we will be happy to oblige!
